I only have one suggestion. And that is that you and your hubby invest in 2 pocket sized air horns. That way either one of you can contact the other in case of an emergency. Me and the Boy Scouts! LOL

I did this exact thing for my 50th birthday a year ago. Completely unplugged and went to the winter wild for almost a week. I wrote about it a couple months ago if you're interested in knowing how my experience shaped up!
I need time everyday to be alone in a natural setting. Our cabin is in the woods, we do wildlife rehab and have released many animals that we still have relationship with. We have a crow that still comes to visit almost daily, sometimes accompanies us on our walks with the dogs. I enjoyed your essay Jeanne.
A lovely posture from which to dive into nature. I wish everyone could do what you do. If not for a whole day, then at least for a while. Even if the dog comes along, with her own experience.

Going solo in nature is extremely important but also really hard to to. Finding the time or place to be without others is a real challenge. I've spent my life working outdoors but rarely by myself. Good luck and happy birthday.
