This is so awesome! That is living the dream. A home, with lots of space in nature, a nature trail, and friends to share it with. Yes! And I need to find out more about OLLI, I never heard of that before.
Karen, is there a university near you? Check with them. I'll bet they have one. It's fantastic. Classes in everything from WWII history to stained glass to Moroccan cooking.
OLLI is such a great program. I loved my OLLI classes back in Clemson, both ones I taught and ones I took. Here in Asheville, it much more long-term class focused (a traditional semester-based approach) which isn’t so appealing to me.
Congrats on your trail, how wonderful! It's been a dream of mine too to have my own trail. I love that you're sharing it with the community! Also, walking in the rain can be a soothing, transformative experience - I love that they embraced it and didn't let it stop them.
Thanks, Naomi. If you can make your own trail, I highly recommend it. A very satisfying enterprise. And I agree about walking in the rain ... it's so nice!
This is so dreamy Jeanne! We are making something similar on our land. I'm adding little hidden libraries in different places with writing about the specific tree or place they are under, and prompts to create their own mythologies and stories. I hope one day to come and walk your trail with you 💛
I had tears in my eyes when I finished reading. So much of what you do is what I wish I could do. THANKS for doing it! It's inspiring and so very important!
Your Green Bird Nature Trail is beautiful and peaceful. I was holding my breath in the video, watching obstacles ahead of you for the stumble! It was fun to see Cleo; my cats used to go on walks too, and it was such a great time with them. Nothing looks at the world as cats do. What a gift to have the nature trail to offer people. I love its leafy, nurturing feel.
Thanks for being here and "walking" the trail with me, Jenny! I am happy you've also had the experience of walking with a trail cat. Such fun! Cleo zooms around ahead of us on the trail and walks on every downed log she can find. She has a great life.
Thank you, Paul. A secret: We're not quite done with the trail! Future plans are to build a rustic log bridge across the creek, so we can have a spur loop that crosses the creek and goes along the foot of the mountain. As for sharing our space with others, I know you do that, too, with your beautiful native plant garden. Bravo!
I look forward to seeing the progress. Speaking of my garden, Saddleridge Sanctuary, I think my next article may be about that. There is so much to say about a garden, where we have both grown together for 37 years.
My pleasure, Mark. And by the way, I enjoyed hearing a snippet of your story last night on Janisse's Rhizosphere gathering. Especially when you said, "Nature heals." You need to write your story!
Working on an outline/draft. And in a way that is less about me and more of what I learned about the natural world’s healing ways (and why I believe it is one of our basic human needs). I hope it will be developed enough for use during one of Janisse’s Creative Nonfiction classes when they’re offered this coming Fall.
I am Jim. And I approve this message. 💙
Hahaha!

Lovely. Restacked. I enjoyed Brevard during my waterfalls adventures.
Thank you, Brenda ... and welcome to the Rx Nature family! I'm glad you know the beautiful Brevard area.
I take 60-seconds nature videos. I have Blue Ridge Mtns, Looking Glass Falls, and Triple Falls coming up on the schedule.

Jane, that sounds like an incredible project .... I love it! You're welcome to come here and walk our trail, and I'd like to experience yours too.
It's a date! xx

Awww, Susi, that's so touching. I know you do what you CAN do ... and that's important, too. Never doubt that!
Hugs ~
Such amazing work you are doing.
Thanks so much, MK!
I love this! And that poem was so wonderful!
Thanks, Jan ... and yes, I liked it too. Especially the last line.
I watched every second of the nature hike video. I felt as if I were on the trail with you.
Love that you were with me from afar!

I love that you have completed your trail and are so generous with sharing it with others.

Yes, yes! Please do write that one. I look forward to reading about Saddleridge.
Will do 😁
Your trail looks amazing.
Come on over some day and we'll walk it, Debbie!
So nice. Such a wonderful way to share your special place in the world.
Thank you, Lisa! It's indeed a joy and an honor. Looking forward to your book!
Also - “Nature-Informed Stress Management.” !?!?! Awesome. I'm glad we're teaching our young folks things we should have learned but didn't.
Yes! And this was a "gen ed" class; they got credits for it no matter what their major was!
Wonderful trail! And wonderful of you and Jim to open it to people for their wellbeing! Looking forward to tales from Green Bird Nature Trail. ✨😃✨
Thanks so much, Sandy! Much appreciated.
Truly a beautiful sanctuary. Thank you for caring for your place in this way. And sharing it there and here with us too.

Sounds intriguing. I hope you go forward with it!
